What is exactly the emo dress style?

Today, with the evolution of fashion, we will see how to look good, how to be chic, how to have character, how to be stylish.

The first thing to know and to understand is that the style of dress is an important means of communication. Indeed, without knowing a person or even talking to them, the first information we receive about them is the way they dress. Therefore, even the absence of a style claims a style in itself and tells something about a personality.

In this article, we will try to give you as complete a rundown as possible on the mysteries of clothing style. We will show you our vision of style, its history

Origin of the emo

The emo genre emerged from the hardcore punk scene in the 1980s in Washington DC, known as “emotional hardcore” or “emocore”, developed by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. Its roots lie in the post-hardcore scene, the straight-blade movement and Revolutionary Summer.

During the 1990s, emo evolved and mixed with other musical trends in punk, such as pop-punk and indie rock, through forms such as Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate. It would also take on a more aggressive and aggressive transformation with screams shaped by bands such as Still Life, Indian Summer, Moss Icon, Orchid or Saetia.

By the mid-1990s, many emo bands had emerged from the Midwest and mid-America, and many record companies began to specialize in the style.

Emo became popular with the general public in the early 2000s thanks to bands like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional, and the screams of The Used, Thursday or Alexisonfire. After some commercial success, some emo bands signed with major labels, and the style became a marketing product1.

In the late 2000s, the popularity of emo as defined by the mainstream media dropped. Some bands changed musical direction, while others disbanded. The “emo shift” began in the 2010s when bands took over the sonic and musical aesthetics of emo in the 1990s and early 2000s. emoviolence (a style at the crossroads of screaming and powerviolence) is developing simultaneously.

What is a clothing style?

According to the dictionary, style is both: the totality of someone’s tastes, his or her way of being, his or her way of dressing, hairstyle and behavior; but also, the quality of someone who presents original aesthetic characteristics. What we learn here is that style is not only related to clothing. Indeed, it is a whole set of aesthetic and behavioral factors, but it is also the reflection of an individuality.

THE HISTORY OF STYLE

How long has fashion been fashionable?

Did you know that the word “fashion” appeared in the French language in the Middle Ages, when it referred to the collective way of living and dressing, which is our modern definition of style?

However, fashion only really became fashionable from the 17th century onwards at the court of the kings and queens of Europe; in particular at Versailles, where the fashions dictated by the well-born followed one another. Paris thus became the capital of fashion, a title that the city has never lost since.

However, is it possible to talk about clothing style yet? Not really. In previous years, we were fashionable if we followed the tastes of the time, and there were not many alternatives to express our individuality. Even then, sartorial frivolities were strictly reserved for the aristocracy and the elite.

Thus, it was not until the French Revolution that fashion became (somewhat) more democratic and began to take on more political and ideological aspects. However, to achieve the real change, the real upheaval that was to metamorphose our way of dressing, we had to wait.

The search for personality through clothing style

More than a century and a half later, here we are at the very beginning of the 1960s, a decade that would totally revolutionized fashion and society as a whole. For the first time in the history of clothing, teenagers refused to dress like their parents. They craved independence, individuality and belonging.

Thanks to the meteoric development of ready-to-wear clothing and the growing influence of Pop Culture, groups of stylish young people have sprung up and flourished, asserting their singularity through clothing styles as pronounced as they are varied. Music, cinema, sport, politics and stars of the time: it is now the tastes of youth that make and break fashions.

Clothing styles today

50 years on, there is no shortage of styles, quite the contrary. Thanks to the appearance of ready-to-wear clothes in the mid-1960s, fashion has never run out of steam. The evolution of the Internet and social networks from the 2000s onwards has further strengthened the rise of new clothing trends governed by very specific aesthetic codes.

Gothic, kawaii, e-girl, hipster, emo, lolita are some of the most important clothing styles and what we see most often in our modern streets.

What is emo fashion?

Emo is a style of music that originated in Washington, DC, in the 1980s and is a combination of pop punk and indie rock. The name emo is short for emotional hardcore. More than just music, emo is used to describe a particular style of fashion popular with the emo subculture, which is generally teenagers. Emo fashion usually includes tight t-shirts, hoodies, skinny jeans, trainers, punk accessories and specific hair and make-up styles.

Dress code

Typically, emo outfits include a band t-shirt which is often worn tightly. Thus the band should be considered cool, which means that it should be an emo band or a band that emo fashion followers find ironic.

In addition, the t-shirts are usually short sleeved and paired with hoodies, another name for sweatshirt jackets. The hoodie should have the name of an emo group, skulls or stars on it or be a solid, dark color.

Generally, in emo fashion, hoodies are acceptable all year round, regardless of the weather.

However, one of the most important aspects of emo fashion is the skinny jean. This is a style of jeans that are tight from the hips to the ankles, and men can wear girls’ jeans. So, the aim is for the jeans to look painted on down to the legs, so they can be dark indigo, black or even bright, but never the color of ordinary blue jeans. Black Converse trainers or skate shoes, such as Vans, are chosen as common footwear in emo fashion. Women can wear black buckle shoes, but the main key is to wear simple, flat shoes.

Shoes and accessories

Emo fashion consists of many fashion accessories, such as mittens, studded bracelets, studded leather belts and backpacks or tote bags with emo band logos. Many people add pins to them. Men and women often wear thin, long, striped scarves to complete an outfit. In addition, multiple ear piercings are part of the trend, and many men also wear thick black glasses with horn rings.

Hair and make-up

Hair is an integral part of emo fashion, and the main look is straight black hair with long fringes. The fringes are usually swept to the side and cover one or both eyes. Many people add thick blue, pink or bleached blonde highlights to their hair. Both men and women usually wear black eyeliner in emo fashion, so men create a smudged look and women wear straight, clean lines on the upper and lower eyelids. Both sexes also wear black nail polish on chipped nails to compete with the overall emo look.

The difference between emo and goth

The difference between emo and goth is that “emo” is a type of hardcore punk with an emphasis on hard-hitting, outspoken political lyrics, catharsis and self-expression, and “gothic” is a language once spoken by Goth.

“Gothic” is about the Goths and their successors.

particular sign

They combine an androgynous look with a romantic, artistic and emotional spirit, complain about misunderstandings, stick little skulls everywhere and swear by Converse.
